Barcelona and England star forward Toni Duggan has been classified as “a doubt” for England’s World Cup opener tomorrow.

The 27-year-old is said to have a thigh problem and was forced out of training today as Phil Neville’s side prepare for a tough test against Scotland.

Neville will be disappointed as Duggan is often a key part of England’s attack, usually playing off the left wing. She has made 51 appearances for her country so far and has played in every warm up game the team has had in the lead up to this world cup.

If there is an injury there, the sensible thing for Neville to do is keep her sidelined tomorrow and make sure she’s fit for the next game. Obviously the rivalry between England and Scotland is one of the oldest in football, but it’s not worth risking further injury when Neville has more than competent replacements in his team.

Elsewhere, defender Demi Stokes is also a doubt for this game after having missed most of England’s training sessions this last week. The rest of the squad should be fit and raring to go for England v Scotland at 5pm tomorrow evening. You can catch that game live on BBC One in the UK.
