Germany star Marozsan suffers broken toe

Germany star Dzsenifer Marozsan is likely to miss the remainder of the World Cup after suffering a broken toe.

The incident occurred during Saturday’s 1-0 over China – despite Marozsan playing the full 90 minutes of the game. She was arguably Germany’s best player in that game too, with her wicked deliveries toward Alexandra Popp a constant threat.

There is a chance she could come back before the end of the tournament, should Germany go far in it. One thing is for certain, she will miss both of Germany’s remaining group games. German coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg recognises the importance of Marozsan, and says she’ll be tough to replace.

“We’ll try to get her back. You cannot replace her because she has special qualities and abilities.”

The midfielder is currently employed by Olympique Lyonnais at club level and has just won a fourth straight Champions League title with the French giants. She has been capped 91 teams by her country and recently fought her way back to fitness after suffering a life threatening pulmonary embolism in July of last year.

If anyone knows how to fight back full fitness, it’s this lady. She’ll be doing her utmost to get back fit for the semi-finals and finals, should her team get there, which will both be played on her home ground in Lyon.
