In a serious turn up for the books, Lazy Fan Sports have decided to run a story about a football fan who is anything but lazy. Scott Cunliffe is a Burnley FC fan who has decided to run the entire way to every single Clarets away game this season – all in the name of charity. Last night saw him complete his fifteenth #RunAway of the season – an incredible achievement.
Not content with that, Scott has no plans of stopping anytime in the near future. Burnley have four more away trips between now and the end of the season, two of them will be the comparatively short 50 or so miles to Merseyside to face Everton and Liverpool. The other two are quite a bit longer with the 245 mile trip to Chelsea and then a staggering 287 mile journey to Bournemouth.
Once the season is over, Scott will have run over 3000 miles during the course of the season – That’s the equivalent of 115.3 marathons. I hear you ask, “Why? Why on Earth would anyone put themselves through that much pain?” Instead of me telling you, I’ll let Scott explain it to you:
“I spent two decades working for charities in parts of Southeast Asia that were seriously affected by violent crime and poverty. My experiences left me with post-traumatic stress disorder and depression – running was a major part of my therapy in overcoming this. I want to use that experience to benefit others and I think football is the perfect way to unite people in this cause.
“I wanted to combine my passion for adventure running with my passion for Burnley. Both Burnley and running give me belief that anything is possible.
“All the money I raise will go to Burnley FC in the Community, the official charity of Burnley FC. They will then distribute 50% of the funds raised by The RunAway Challenge to local charities in Burnley. The other 50% will be divided between the community trusts at each of the Premier League clubs I’ll be running to.
This way, I hope the challenge will leave its mark on communities across the country – not just here in Burnley.
“I really hope RunAway inspires others to get through dark tines and achieve their dreams.”
Scott truly is an incredible man with an incredible enthusiasm for what he believes in. I strongly recommend you take a look at his journey and donate whatever you can spare towards this incredibly worthy man and his even more worthy cause. Visit the link below:
