Thierry Henry ‘suspended’ by Monaco

Thierry Henry has been suspended from his job as AS Monaco head coach. AS Monaco have released a statement saying he has been “suspended” while they make a permanent decision on his future.

This comes following speculation Henry was about to be sacked and replaced by the man they sacked just four months ago, Leonardo Jardim.

A press release from the club read simply: “AS Monaco announces that it has decided to suspend first-team coach Thierry Henry. Franck Passi will train the professional group this Friday.”

Since Thierry Henry took charge of the club, they’ve managed just five wins in 20 games – form which sees them sat in the relegation zone. Monaco have played in the top division of French football since 2012-13 and they won the league as recently as two seasons ago. It’s quite a spectacular fall from grace in such a small period of time.

It obviously all got a bit too much for the former Arsenal man recently with some unsavoury reports surfacing from the weekend. During his sides 5-1 hammering at home at the hands of Strasbourg, Henry shouted at Kenny Lala: “It’s the 43rd minute – You’re Grandmother’s a Wh*re!”

Since then, Henry has expressed his regret at his remarks. He told the media after the game: “I regret my comments from the bench. It was a human reaction, I’m still human. I regret it.”

Obviously at the moment it’s just a suspension, but you’d imagine it’s only a matter of time before the announcement is given and Henry is back hunting the job pages. Not the start he would have hoped for in his managerial career – Aston Villa fans will be breathing a sigh of relief.
